Not Just Sax was formed by Sarah in 2001 after searching for a new direction and discovering jazz!! Ray Shea (keys) has been involved from the start and has supported Sarah throughout. The main stay of the rhythm section is Pete Maxfield (bass) and Dave Wallis (drums). Pete spent 16yrs on tour with the renowned saxophonist Andy Sheppard, playing all over the world, as well as playing and recording with many well known artists in various styles from Rock, Blues, Soul and Pop. Dave works regularly with David Essex and has played with Vanessa Mae, Elaine Paige and Bond. Ray has played in a jazz support band to Tubby Hayes, Sonny Rollins, Roland Kirk and many others. He has featured on the BBC's Radio Jazz Club hosted by Humphrey Lyttleton and has played at Ronnie Scotts. Sarah has played many different styles from pop, blues, progressive rock to classical, working all over the country and on several tours! Sarah decided to go back to studying part time in 2002 and graduated from Southampton University in 2008 with a 2:1 music degree. Sarah currently works as a freelance musician and music teacher.
Not Just Sax regularly play at 1812, Christchurch Food Festival and on the Quay in Poole for firework nights and have their debut this year at Swanage Jazz Festival. They have also recorded three CD’s and hope to start a new one at the end of 2009.
“This will also be our 6th year at ‘Stomping at the Quomps’. We all always look forward to the Quomps, there is always a great atmosphere and the whole day is great fun!”
