Taverners Big Band 7:30pm - 10pm

Established as one of the UK"s leading Jazz Big Bands, the Taverners Big Band play a unique blend of popular and
contemporary big band jazz.

The Taverners Big Band repertoire is vast – from the popular standards of Count Basie and Glenn Miller, to the Latin Jazz of Sammy Nestico and Chick Corea, together with the hard-driving Blues charts made popular by Jooles Holland.

In their tenth anniversary year the band began an annual gig that has become part of the town's community life and a tourist attraction - a free open-air concert promoted by the Regent Centre Association and the borough council on the beautiful bank of the River Stour unflatteringly known as the Quomps Stompin" on the Quomps in August 1997 entertained an audience estimated at over two thousand.

Nationally, the Taverners have won recognition by repeatedly reaching the finals of the prestigious BBC Big Band Competition.

Baddest Blues Band Ever 5pm

'The finest new blues band on the British scene....? very possibly'. Featuring a host of top JAZZ players. This is not miserable, down at heal, morose, smoky pub fare - rather Hammond/harmonica/vocal/guitar led six piece band, producing exhilarating and vibrant dance blues. The players are all amazing musicians with excellent track records.

Sultry and charismatic vocalist Zoë Schwarz is propelled by ace guitarist Rob Koral and blistering blues harp man Si Genaro. The achingly groovy all-star rhythm section features happening Hammond organist John-Paul Gard, jet-setting jazz double bassist Malcolm Creese and dynamite drummer Dave Wallace.

"A thoroughly modern mix of jazz and blues, they are superb..... To all fans of quality blues/jazz, this will really appeal." - Blues Matters

"One of the finest guitar led blues and roots bands in the world" - TimeOut Magazine 2008

Not Just Sax 3pm

Not Just Sax was formed in 2002 by Sarah Bolter. Having previously been involved in many different styles of music from ‘pop’ to ‘progressive rock’, Sarah was looking for a new direction. Ray Shea (keys) is one of the original members and had not long moved into Bournemouth before he joined up with Sarah and Pete Maxfield (bass) and Dave Wallis (drums) joined a couple of years later. All members have a love of  ‘latin’ jazz which has been incorporated into the set as well as original numbers written by Ray and one by Sarah.

Sarah is currently working as an instrumental teacher, a freelance musician for various combo’s and a variety of pit orchestra’s, as well as being in her final year of a degree course in music at Southampton University. Sarah is featured on four albums by rock band ‘Galahad’ and has played on many support tours.

Ray Shea was born in the East End of London and has played in a jazz quintet support to Tubby Hayes, Sonny Rollins, Rolland Kirk and many others. He featured on BBC’s Radio Jazz Club hosted by Humphrey Lyttleton and has played at Ronnie Scotts in London.

Pete Maxfield spent 16years on tour with renowned saxophonist Andy Sheppard, playing all over the world. They won the Young Jazz Musicians of the year in 1981 with the quartet ’Sphere’. Pete has also played and recorded with many well known artists in various musical styles from rock, blues, soul to pop.

Dave Wallace was born in London and works regularly on the tour circuit including playing for David Essex, Vanessa Mae, Elaine Paige and Bond. He has performed many times on TV and Radio and for many sessions.

The Lemon Grove 1pm

The group was founded in 1993 as a jazz trio with the sole intention of playing good music well.
Originally only intended to be a `hobby` band as a playing alternative to Andy & Jim`s other band, the very successful `Street Level`.

The Lemongrove (or as it was then `The Lemongrove Plating Co`, taken from an advert seen on the side of a l930s racing car) continued to grow in popularity and success supporting some popular names on the jazz festival circuit such as George Melly, Courtney Pine, Barbara Dennerlein to mention a few

With the band`s growing audiences and successes it was decided to wind down Street Level (after nearly fifteen years!) and to put all the effort into the Lemongrove project.

Piano was added in 1995 and the band has been working regularly ever since, playing to a variety of audiences at public and private events of all sizes and occasions and sometimes in the most bizarre locations.
